CoR_logo.svgThe European Commission is happy to announce that its first #EUChatREGIO will take place on 25 September 2014 – 15h-16h max. 16h30 CET time and will focus on the role and added value of מאַקראָו-רעגיאָנאַל סטראַטעגיעס אין אייראָפּע.

Using Twitter and other forms of social media for work and professional development presents regional and local professionals and media with interesting opportunities for learning and sharing best practice across regions, cities and public services.

This tweetchat aims to help people concerned share their experiences, ideas, and views on the role, added-value and benefits of macro-regional strategies, both current and future.

Macro-regional strategies are integrated frameworks endorsed by the European Council, which may be supported by the European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF) among others, to address common challenges faced by a defined geographical area relating to member states and third countries located in the same geographical area which thereby benefit from strengthened cooperation contributing to achievement of economic, social and territorial cohesion. The actual strategies in place are targeting the Baltic Sea (EUSBSR), the Danube (EUSDR), and the Adriatic and Ionian (EUSAIR) regions. A fourth one for the Alpine strategy (EUSALP), is currently under preparation (a ציבור באַראַטונג is ongoing), and it will be adopted in 2015.

Please use the hashtag #EUChatREGIO. The Commission will be tweeting from @EU_Regional and the twitter accounts of the different strategies will join the discussion.

Suggested questions for discussion (please always specify question n° -ie קקסנומקסאַ- in your tweet and if appropriate the strategy concerned #EUSBSR #EUSDR #EUSAIR #EUSALP):

1) Challenges & macro-regions

a. What do you think are the key challenges that can be better handled by co-operation? Can you give some examples or share some experiences?
b. How can a macro-regional strategy help to better cope with events that do not respect borders, such as floods, fires or pollution in the river and/or seas?

2) Opportunities and macro-regions

a. Do you think that co-operation can contribute to making the most of opportunities such as the development of a stronger tourism brand in a given region?
b. Do you think that a multi-level and cross-sectoral approach is useful to tackle issues such as navigation in the Danube river in a sustainable manner?
c. Do you see a potential in the cooperation between more and less advanced countries in a given region? How can countries of the lower Danube benefit from the experience of the upper Danube countries?
d. How can the countries benefit from cooperation in the field of research and innovation, so as to avoid unnecessary duplication of infrastructures, for example?
e. Do you see the benefits of this approach? What is your personal experience?

6) People and macro-regions

a. What about civil society? What should be its role?
b. Do you think that a macro-region should have a cultural dimension? Is there a Baltic, Danube, Adriatic-Ionian or Alpine feeling of ownership?
c. Have you ever attended the Annual Forum and/or a stakeholder conference of a macro-regional strategy? What were your impressions?

A post-chat summary will be available a few days after the chat on storify.com/EU_Regional.
